2011 Fox Den Vineyard Pinot Noir - SOLD OUT
2011 was a vintage of fresh, aromatic Pinots, with bright acidity and moderate alcohol. It was also a year where the innate plushness and sweet, friendly nature of Fox Den made it a clear standout. 2011 started out cold and wet, with great early spring rains that continued off and on through flowering. After the scant 2010 crop, we were surprised that 2011 ended up even smaller, at well under 2 tons per acre at Fox Den. This was a blessing in disguise, as the summer continued cool and foggy and it was only the small load that enabled the vines to ripen the fruit to the phenolic richness that’s so apparent in this wine. The 2011 Fox Den shows the forward, floral aromatics that are inherent in this vintage, and adds on beautiful sweet strawberry, sour cherry and caramel notes that make you just want to dive in. In the mouth it’s sensuous adult candy, sharing cherry/berry fruit enveloped in soft tannins and sweet cream/coconut overtones, and held together by fresh acidity and moderate alcohol. We love this offering for its combination of focus and lushness. It might be the most immediately showy of our 2011 Pinots, but will certainly improve with age for 7 to 10 more years. 94 points, Wine Enthusiast.
