Building a Pond

Water conservation is always an important issue for farmers, and with our drought, it's become even more critical. One of the ways Dutton Ranch saves water is by installing ponds that catch and save rainwater from our winter rains. To keep the valuable water from just seeping back into the ground, Steve recently had a crew in to line this very large pond with heavy-duty rigid plastic. The large sheets are unrolled and cut to fit, then the seams are welded together. Each seam is tested with air to ensure it's water-tight before continuing on to the next connection. This job took about four days to complete, and was done just before a nice rainstorm hit.
