    Five days left!
Pour our Chardonnay and Pinot Noir by the glass at your home every night with Restaurant Pricing: 2022 Edition

Our Restaurant Pricing offers have been so wildly popular the past two years, we had to do it once more! This special deal ends on May 15, so if you want to get in on it, don't delay!

This year, along with our 2019 Dutton Ranch Chardonnay, we have a special wine to add to the mix: our 2020 Mendocino Hills Pinot Noir.

As you've heard, we weren't able to bottle any pinot from our Sonoma County vineyards for the 2020 vintage due to the smoke from the fires. Fortunately, our Mendocino vineyards were spared, but due to the uncertainty of the long-term ageability of the wine from our more inland site in Comptche (an important trait for our single-vineyard bottlings), we opted to bottle the wine as a "drink now" offering. To further that point, we bottled the wine in a screw cap, making it easy to bring it along to enjoy everywhere you go—even if that's your own dining room on a Tuesday night!

Our 2020 Mendocino Hills Pinot Noir leads with the classic rich blackberry compote and bowl of fruit we've come to love from this site. Queen Anne cherry, pomegranate, and a touch of vanilla round out the aromas. The mouth is super juicy, plush, and decadent, with a lift of bright red cherry and cola on the spicy baking spice finish. It's perfect with anything on the barbeque, as well as pizza, pasta, and fowl of all kinds.

Our 2019 Dutton Ranch Chardonnay is rich and inviting, with notes of lemon oil, almond brioche, and a tropical mélange of lychee, pineapple, and kiwi surrounding the core of tangerine and zesty Eureka lemon. Honeyed citrus and pear, along with exotic guava and hazelnut, surround the lively and fresh lemon/lime center. A little crushed oyster shell minerality adds an invigorating edge to the fruit, and makes you ponder shellfish matches for the wine.

We're also throwing in $10 flat rate ground shipping on all the packages below.

In the Vineyards: Bloom is in the air

While spring flowers are blooming across the country, we have our own special blossoms lending their gentle sweet scent to the air: the tiny flowers on our grapevines.

Here is our Emerald Ridge Pinot on May 9. In this cluster, the caps have come off the bud and the stamens with their anthers containing the pollen at the tips are ready to pollinate the center pistil. Each flower you see has the possibility of becoming a grape berry if all goes according to plan. We had a weekend of unsettled weather, including a few little rainstorms, but hopefully not enough to cause havoc in the pollination cycle.

A belated but very happy Mother's Day to all you Moms out there! We hope your family showered you with love, laughs, and plenty of your favorite wine.

  • New releases of all kinds! Plus the return of a favorite...

    April 8, 2022 15:21

OUR STORY  |  VISIT  |  WINE CLUB  |  SHOP

Our new release Chardonnay is a star already!

2019 Walker Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir
    94 points, Wine Enthusiast

"...at once fairly full and yet light on its feet with a neatly meshed mix of sweet apples and creamy oak running its very considerable length"
~ Connoisseur's Guide to California Wine

We are unabashed Chardonnay lovers at Dutton-Goldfield, as this bottling proves—we started making it because the winemaker wanted to drink it! This wine is everything we want of Green Valley Chardonnay: powerful citrus fruit and tense acidity wrapped in the candied setting of classic chardonnay winemaking. Situated 500 vertical feet above Purrington Creek on fluffy Goldridge soil, the block was planted in the early 1980s, and produces the tiny berries with thick skins we love from old Wente in Green Valley. While the majority goes into our Dutton Ranch Chardonnay blend, we take our very favorite barrels for this limited bottling.

The 2019 season imparted a little extra luscious richness to our lively Walker Hill Chardonnay, wrapping the citrus core with a satiny texture. The nose leads with an orchard of aromas, ranging from lemon blossom, Asian pear, and Granny Smith apple. Notes of pineapple, dried apricot, and brioche provide a plush backdrop. This intricate fruit mélange and fresh/creamy dance follows through in the mouth, with Eureka lemon, kiwi, and papaya flavors interlaced with gardenia and crème brûlée. Beautifully balanced until the end, the wine finishes with ginger-lemon drops kissed with toffee.

    Brittany's New Release:
Meet the tiniest member of Team DG, Baby Veda!

We are so excited for Brittany, our wine club manager, and her husband Chris, who welcomed their baby girl on Saturday, April 2. Join us in sending our big congratulations to the Alejos family!

Brittany reports that Veda Rae is a great baby, which just means that our powerhouse Brittany will probably be looking for things to do before too long! She'll be taking a few months off, but our members can count on seeing her at our Wine Club Luau this summer.

Look for news and your invitation to the Luau and other upcoming club events soon!

    The Return of a Favorite:
Not a wine, but a wine pourer—David Hewitt is back!

As so many of you know, David opened our tasting room back in 2010, and was with DG for seven years. He decided to go see what the rest of the wine world had to offer, but realized his home is here with us. We're thrilled to have him back in our tasting room, sharing his love of our wines with our wonderful guests. He's working Thursdays through Sundays, so make plans to come by and say hello again.

Our tastings are still by appointment, but if we have availability, we're always happy to take walk-ins. If you're in the neighborhood, take a chance and stop in, or give us a call at 707.827.3600 to see if we have space.

    In the Vineyards:
The 2022 season is off to a warm start

Emerald Ridge Pinot and Morelli Lane Zinfandel

What do you get when you put together 35" of early rains and a warm a dry winter? A quick-growing, ahead-of-normal start to the 2022 growing season.

Our extremely wet Fall filled all the Dutton Ranch ponds (opposite of 2020, when they had about 6" of sad little puddles in their bottoms), setting the vineyards up for whatever may lay ahead. As you can see from the pictures of Emerald Ridge pinot and Morelli Lane zinfandel vines, the growth is looking strong, lush, and green. The little clusters are forming nicely, with nearly all shoots having at least 2 bunches as we hope for. We had a bit of frost very early before the vines had pushed out, so there hasn't even been much need for frost protection watch this year. Our typical last frost date is late April, but we've been known to have frost into May and even early June. Fingers crossed that's not the case this year!

Bloom usually happens in May, but we could see it sooner this year at some sites if the warm weather continues. This week we even hit 90 degrees in Sebastopol, so that will definitely keep pushing things along at this rapid pace.

Sunday is National Hug Your Dog Day, so be sure to give your pooch an extra squeeze!

We have several winery friends with dogs named Dutton, including the super cute (and huggable) one here, as well as our wonderful club members the Johnson's IG star @dutton_thekiawahisland_cavapoo. Keep the dog love coming!

    It's here! Your exclusive
2021 Rosé of Pinot Noir &
2021 Shop Block Pinot Blanc Presale

We'll be bottling our 2021 bright whites at the end of March, so we're offering your presale opportunity now, with stock-up pricing.

Again this year, we're offering both our 2021 Rosé and 2021 Pinot Blanc at this amazing one-time-only price—over 20% off on case purchases! Plus, shipping is included on all orders of 2+ cases of either or both wines, you can order enough cases to get you through the spring, summer, and all year long.

    2021 Rosé of Pinot Noir

The core of our Rosé this vintage are three of our most aromatic Pinots: our Emerald Ridge and Fox Den vineyards in Green Valley, along with our Mendocino County star, Docker Hill. The wine has that beautiful core of acidity you want from Rosé that makes it so refreshing, with just enough roundness to make it a bit decadent. We tasted the pre-bottled version of the wine at our staff meeting last Monday night, and the comments from the team included: watermelon, peach, lively, stone fruit, "a day at the beach!", strawberry, and candy apple. We expect to bottle just about 250 cases and the release retail price will be $33 per bottle (if there's any left).

    2021 Shop Block Pinot Blanc

Our Pinot Blanc has been a consistent crowd-pleaser since we first introduced it in 2006. The 2021 vintage pops with gorgeous fruit orchard aromas and flavors, and has that little bit of grip Pinot Blanc is known for, along with a touch of richness from the small amount of ML the wine went through. The nose leads with white peach, grapefruit, pineapple, and green apple, with pretty floral notes of lily of the valley and honeysuckle. All that and more is delivered in the mouth, with Asian pear, clementine, and a wet stone minerality adding to the complexity. As with the Rosé, we expect to bottle about 250 cases, with a retail release price of $33.

    Presale Case (12 bottles)

  • Mother Nature's whiplash | Library wines to get you through the rest of winter

    February 28, 2022 15:21

OUR STORY  |  VISIT  |  WINE CLUB  |  SHOP

From record highs to record lows,
the 2022 season is off to a quirky start

We all got excited after harvest last year when the skies opened and we had record rainfall. Finally, a great start to our rainy season! We clocked around 30 inches in our neighborhood by the time 2021 ended, putting us at or above seasonal averages.

After that, we gave new meaning to "dry January" and have continued that into February, with only a tiny 1½ inches coming down since the beginning of the year. Unseasonably warm temperatures added to the party, with a full week of days reaching into the upper 70s and low 80s. Mother Nature decided to send us the polar (pun intended) opposite of that this week, plunging our morning temperatures into the 20s, as you can see from the frosty vineyard picture above.

So, what does all this mean for our vineyards and the grapes that will be made into our favorite beverage? Fortunately, no bad news so far, and even some good, as many ponds were filled with the big rains, so we're looking pretty solid for water here in our neighborhood, where the rainfall was some of the heaviest. Also, while the vines looked like they might start waking up early with the warm weather, it turned cold before that happened, so it's looking like we'll be back on track for our typical mid-March budbreak. As long as we don't have this sub-30s weather come back after the buds start unfurling their little leaves, we should be in good shape and not see any negative effects on the upcoming crop. We're also forecast to possibly get a bit more rain in this coming week, and our state really needs that to keep us out of a drought situation, so get out your raindance shoes to help that turn into a reality!

Library wines to get you through the rest of winter

While we're all enjoying our cozy nights by the fireplace and cooking at home, we've found ourselves hitting our cellars for some older wines to accompany these meals. Wines with a few years of age on them have additional breadth and gorgeous secondary notes that provide the wine with an extra dose of depth, along with savory characters that make them even better matches for these dishes.

We have a limited number of magnums available on some of our library wines as well. Email us for more information.

Orders of four or more bottles of library wines receive shipping included.
