2016 Cherry Ridge Vineyard Syrah

While we make up to 12 Pinots in a vintage, we produce only 1 Syrah: our Cherry Ridge Vineyard Syrah from the heart of Green Valley. This ridgetop site sits above the fog line, making it just warm enough to ripen the fruit (most years...sorry 2010 and 2011...). Syrah from our neighborhood is vivid, balanced, and plush, just what we're looking for on those occasions that want a bolder red wine.

There’s a friendly forwardness to our 2016 Cherry Ridge Vineyard Syrah, which shows in the exuberant bright boysenberry fruit that leads the nose. The characteristic leather and sandalwood savory notes back up the fruit, along with some pretty purple flower aromas of violet and wisteria. In the glass, the density and richness of the wine is apparent, and the mouth delivers that promise, with blackberry pie framed by white pepper and cedar, along with a touch of grilled meat adding a wild element to the flavors. Firm but round tannins carry the juicy fruit and dusky spice to a lengthy finish.

Welcome Melissa Stackhouse to the DG family
as our new Winemaker

We are excited to announce that winemaker veteran Melissa Stackhouse has joined the winery as Winemaker. Under the direction of owner/winemaker Dan Goldfield, Melissa will be extensively involved in all aspects of Dutton-Goldfield’s winemaking, as well as overseeing the management of our custom crush clients.

Melissa comes to Dutton-Goldfield with a winemaking history that parallels Dan Goldfield’s in several ways: she received her winemaking degree at University of California at Davis, apprenticed at Robert Mondavi Winery, and was winemaker at La Crema.

Dan Goldfield is still here and will remain very involved in all aspects of our winemaking. With Melissa here being able to oversee the day-to-day operations of the winery, hopefully he'll be able to take a few more vacations now!
