The media has great things to say as we say goodbye:
2018 Freestone Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir is released, our final vintage

Freestone Hill has long been one of our most popular wines, getting rave reviews from our club members and mailing list friends, as well as high scores from the critics. But it's probably the descriptions about the wine that we love the most. Here are a few quotes for the 2018 vintage:

"This is an intensely feral, wild wine, that is sultry in forest floor, tree bark and black tea. Supple texture supports a wave of firm tannin and complex structure, with crunchy fruit tones of pomegranate and cranberry seasoned in cardamom." 

"...lovely wild blackberry tones on the nose with shades of peat moss and white truffle shavings alongside cola. The palate is dense, showing a wonderful beam of salinity that falls on the rich dark fruits with cola tones on the palate. Downright delicious to enjoy in its youth, this outstanding new bottling will enjoy another decade of life in the cellar."

"Ripe black cherry and plum fruits; spicy, with cranberry notes.  Freestone Hill has good depth of flavor, with firm but not intrusive tannins, and a long, fruity finish.  It demonstrates the fullness and fruitiness of the better Russian River Valley Pinot Noirs.  It’s a wine of substance and character, with complex, dark fruits showing on its finish."

The 2018 vintage overall has been praised by the media for its combination of elegance and richness, producing full-flavored wines with crisp acidity, especially those from coastal vineyards. Our 2018 Freestone Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir is a prime example of that, which is a fitting way to end our era for this stunning wine. Yes, we are sad to report that this is our last vintage for Freestone. The lease expired after 2018, and the owner decided to lease it to another winery. While we'll miss Freestone, we're excited about some of the other vineyards coming online in our portfolio that we'll get to share with you in its place. So the big wheel turns.
