What can I say more about the incredible 2010 Pinots, and my current love, the Fox Den? It's a completely reasonable obsession: this vintage gave us pinot with the balance, brightness and focus we so expect and enjoy from Green Valley, but also a level of density, plushness and concentration rarely associated with bright acidity and sub-14 alcohol. The vintage gave us an extremely wet spring and cold summer which set up a small crop, low sugars, bright acidity and late harvest, while alternating late heat spells gave the fruit exceptional fruit concentration, color and tannin development. Aromatically, the 2010 Fox Den retains its distinctive raspberry core, but also layers deeper black cherry fruit and wonderful violet and toffee candy overtones. In the mouth, its striking signature is amazingly soft but substantial tannins which carry deep back cherry and raspberry fruit, along with elements of nutmeg, coriander and black licorice across the palate. Though enticingly soft and lush, the wine's bright acidity and moderate alcohol drive the lingering fresh fruit and floral finish and leave you wanting more. Like all great balanced vintages, the 2010 is showing beautifully now, but will certainly develop for another 10 or more years in the bottle. Try it with some grass fed beef or sheep milk cheeses. 392 cases produced. 91 points, Wine Enthusiast.
