The wonderful concentration and brightness of this wine is foreshadowed by its luminescent ruby and purple-tinged color. In the nose (always the winemaker's favorite aspect of his favorite wines) it delivers with creamy black cherry and blackberry fruit, enveloped in notes of black pepper, sandalwood and black licorice; and each time you put your nose into the glass a new note seems to arise. In the mouth it offers the combination of ripe, juicy fruit, ample and supple tannins, and racy acidity that we always hope for. The vivid black cherry integrates seamlessly with sweet cream, Asian spice and a touch of tar, all of which are carried through a lingering finish by fresh acidity and moderate alcohol. Like all great vintages, the balance of this wine has it showing beautifully now, but it will last many years in your cellar. For current drinking, it's a perfect cheese accompaniment, or a great pairing with a seared fillet or braised veal chop. 330 cases produced.
