WHAT THE PRESS IS SAYING ABOUT US

"California has thousands of winery tasting rooms, but the 75 here offer new and unforgettable experiences...those who reserve a seat for the new Wine and Cheese Flight can compare four great wines, like Gewürztraminer and Pinot Noir, each paired with a local cheese."
~ Food & Wine Magazine "Best California Wineries to Visit"

"The wines aim to express the "the cool foggy heart" of their western Russian River home. Dutton-Goldfield produces excellent Pinot Noir from several different sites--both blends and single-vineyard bottlings that capture the distinctive characteristics of their terroirs. One standout comes from Freestone Hill, a cool-climate corner of the Russian River AVA that is emerging as a Pinot star. Set in a modern, green, barn-like structure, the casual yet classy tasting room offers multiple options. To learn the most about the wines, choose the seated tasting that takes place on the patio or inside by the fire depending on season. A knowledgeable host pours five limited production wines and describes the vineyards from which they come. The winery also features wine-and-cheese and picnic-and-Pinot flights."

2010 FOX DEN VINEYARD PINOT NOIR
"Offering a taut mix of sour cherry, red candy, raspberry and red plum, this is intense and persistent on the finish. The acidity keeps the flavors lively. Drink now through 2020...91 points."

2011 DUTTON RANCH CHARDONNAY
"Presents a rich mix of white peach, nectarine and white flowers, both potent and graceful, lingering with a citrusy finish. Drink now through 2018...90 points & "12 Outstanding Sonoma Chardonnays."

2010 DUTTON RANCH PINOT NOIR
"Pure, ripe, fleshy cranberry, wild berry and subtle floral, spicy notes give this a range of complexity and subtlety. Drink now through 2018...90 points."

2010 ANGEL CAMP VINEYARD PINOT NOIR
"This wine's high-toned red fruit has the effusiveness of young Cru Beaujolais. The smooth, rich texture brings it home to California, while notes of bright cherry and kelp zero in on Anderson Valley. Grill salmon steaks and toss some hijiki in with the salad...91 points & A Year's Best Pinot."

2010 MCDOUGALL VINEYARD PINOT NOIR
"Grown at a far-coast vineyard near Hirsch, at 1,100 feet, this was made by Dan Goldfield with a long cold soak that built its dark color and extract while maintaining the gentleness of the tannins. It's round, full-bodied and rich with perfumed cherry fruit. A generous pinot noir for prime rib...90 points & A Year's Best Pinot."

2010 RUED VINEYARD CHARDONNAY
"In typical winery fashion, this wine relies on restraint and precision for its charms rather than on outgoing generosity and concentration. Its focused appley fruit and gentle oak in the nose are repeated in flavors that, at this writing, are still on the slightly tight side yet are full of promise. With plenty of length and the balance to serve with virtually any meal that wants an elegant white, this is a wine that can be put aside with full confidence in its future...90 points."

2010 FOX DEN VINEYARD PINOT NOIR
"Very much adhering to the winery's predilection for well-balanced Pinots of measured ripeness, this sleek and structured offering exhibits fine varietal definition with a firm spine of acidity affording it good potential for age. It is not an unctuous wine, but it is deep and constant in fruit, and it cannot but improve if allowed to sit for acouple of more years...90 points."

2010 EMERALD RIDGE VINEYARD PINOT NOIR
"An impressive and forward wine with a combination of subtle elements within a huge frame, and still only 13.8% alcohol. Great finesse...Exceptional."

2010 DUTTON RANCH CHARDONNAY
"Perfect near-Meursault character with lemon drop/sourball aroma, a faint hazelnut note, and creamy yet tart finish. There is little like it...Exceptional."

2010 AZAYA RANCH VINEYARD PINOT NOIR
"One of the finest Pinots ever made in California, though the aroma takes a back seat to the next wine! Exotic spiced strawberry, rhubarb, and intense black cherry. It is indeed rare where the most striking thing about a wine this young is its finish...Exceptional."

2010 ANGEL CAMP VINEYARD PINOT NOIR
"Sweetness and spice of Goldfield's annual winner (Freestone Hill) with an astoundingly floral aroma and gorgeous mid-palate fruit. Could develop a bit faster than the earlier wine...Exceptional."

2010 DEVIL'S GULCH VINEYARD PINOT NOIR
"Blackberry, herbal/clove aroma with traces of tea, clove, and a rich entry. Not quite as complex as the Freestone, but will be sensational in a few years...Exceptional."

2010 FOX DEN VINEYARD PINOT NOIR
"The most approachable DG PN with red cherry/strawberry fruit with a succulent entry and tasty, chewy finish. Still made to age but so enticing now it's hard not to drink it...Exceptional."

2010 RUED VINEYARD CHARDONNAY
"Citrus and cream and a load of depth and complexity. Full ML with Le Montrachet-like structure, at a fraction of the price of that great French wine. Has the weight of a red wine with great acid balance...Exceptional."

2010 FOX DEN VINEYARD PINOT NOIR
"Light to medium garnet in color, this wine smells of raspberries and cranberries. In the mouth, spicy raspberry and cedar flavors are shot through with muddy earthy notes that play a delicious counterbalance to the bright, zingy fruit. Great acidity and length, with a lovely texture and lighly grippy tannins...9-9.5."

2010 MCDOUGALL VINEYARD PINOT NOIR
"Light garnet in the glass, this wine smells of wet earth and forest berries. In the mouth the wine has a phenomenally sexy texture, with flavors of raspberry, red currant, and hints of cherry peeking through an underbrush of forest floor. Ever-s0-faint tannins. the flavors have a coiled, muted quality, as if they are dormant waiting to blossom. I think this wine is going to do wonderful things over time...9-9.5."

2010 MCDOUGALL VINEYARD PINOT NOIR
"...opens with a fragrant black plum and red currant bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, slightly acidic, juicy and fruit forward. The flavor profile is ripe black raspberry with notes of old oak and hints of blackberry and black pepper. The finish is dry and its rich and ripe flavors are very prolonged...90."

2010 MORELLI LANE VINEYARD ZINFINDAL
"Aromas are of ripe dewberries gathered on a summer morning...licorice and candied cherries add to the charm...the mouth is creamy raspbery, cherry and cranberries freshened by bright acidity and softened by ripe, broad tannins. These sensations crescendo into a lingering bright raspberry finish.
~ San Francisco Examiner.com

2010 ANGEL CAMP VINEYARD PINOT NOIR
"...expresses classic characteristics—deep, plumy fruit, fresh acidity, voluptuousness and well-ripened tannins...aromas of black cherry, plum, Bing cherry and black licorice. On the palate, the dark fruit is framed by leather and sarsaparilla and velvety, bright tannins."
~ San Francisco Examiner.com

2010 DUTTON RANCH PINOT NOIR
"In a vintage like 2010, you want a grower like Steve Dutton and a winemaker like Dan Goldfield to show their experience. This mix of several Dutton sites is dark and brooding, an old-school Russian River snapshot - full of pu-erh tea, loam and dusky bayberry. Complicated and a touch sweet, with great acidity at its core." [A Top 10 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir]
~ San Francisco Chronicle

2010 EMERALD RIDGE VINEYARD PINOT NOIR
"Winemaker Dan Goldfield has as deft a hand with Pinot Noir as anyone in California. Over the past decade, no winery in California has been more consistently spectacular than Dutton-Goldfield. So it comes as no surprise that this latest vintage from the Emerald Ridge Vineyard in the chilly Green Valley district of the Russian River Valley turned out so well despite challenging growing conditions. What I like most, however, is the way this wine refutes the conventional wisdom that ever greater ripeness, and the higher levels of alcohol that result, is necessary to deliver the full flavor potential of the grape. Not so. This 13.8 abv Pinot is a flavor blockbuster, exhibiting fresh aromas of blueberry, raspberry and blackberry with impressive intensity and persistence. Well balanced, it has the structure to hold well in a proper celar, but it's drinking beautifuly right now...94 points."
