Shop Blanc Pinot Blanc (Green Valley-Russian River Valley)
Our winemaking goal with this special 2007 offering was to bring out
the wonderful fresh and palate-cleansing nature of true Pinot Blanc.
To that end, we fermented the wine in a small stainless steel portotank
at a cool 50 degrees F. This retains the fresh esters of fermentation
and the central core of fruit and mineral character of the varietal.
We also employed an Alsatian yeast strain that showcases the high tone
aromatics that are so inviting in this wine. We allowed malolactic fermentation
to proceed part way in order to bring out a bit of extra richness, but
not to completion so as to preserve the fresh acidity of the grape.
The wine was bottled after six months of stainless steel aging in the
cellar. The wine shows enticing mineral enhanced stone fruit and blossoms
in the nose, vivid peach and citrus in the mouth, and the slight phenolic
edge that lends the wine its cleansing freshness. This is a wine that
keeps you wanting more, and is just perfect for enjoying on bright spring
days on the deck, either by itself or paired with everything from fresh
salads and appetizers to light summer dinners of petrale sole, shrimp
stir-fry, or grilled vegetables to even spicy exotic fare.110 cases

2005
Cherry Ridge Vineyard Syrah (Green Valley-Russian River Valley)
Cherry Ridge juts out over the west side of Green Valley, facing south
just north the Petaluma Wind Gap. It is both wonderfully scenic, and
a great place to grow grapes. The long, cool 2005 vintage was perfect
for the style of Syrah that we at Dutton-Goldfield love-bright fruit,
ripe silky tannins, and food loving acid/alcohol balance. In the glass
you can immediately see its saturation in the deep ruby color that's
so intrinsic to great syrah. In the nose it offers the bright berries
and spice of its Russian River heritage, while holding onto the tones
of leather and plum that are innate to this varietal. The long wood
aging adds overtones of cinnamon and baking spices. In the mouth, the
blueberry and raspberry fruit meld beautifully with the plush, silky
tannins and bright acidity. This is a wine we love with richer meats,
savory sauces and a wealth of cheeses like aged Gouda and Gruyere, or
a rich Spanish sheep offering. 411 cases. Buy

2006
Morelli Lane Vineyard Zinfandel (Green Valley-Russian River Valley)
The long, cool 2006 growing season well suited the old vines at Morelli
Lane, giving them plenty of time to perfectly ripen. Picked on October
27th of that year, this wine displays the soft elegance and bright raspberry/cherry
fruit that makes it so prized. The 2006 is a particularly easy drinking
version of the old vine zin, with its moderate alcohol, exceptionally
supple tannins and bright acidity. On the nose it shows the classic
Morelli frambois, coupled with lots of bing cherry and some toasty overtones.
It follows with candied cherry along with a bit of allspice and toffee
in the mouth, and lingers with sweet tannins and berry fruit. Its elegant
balance yields a zin perfect for pairing with foods like lasagna, many
cheese, and just abut anything off the barbeque. 248 cases. Buy

2006
Dutton Ranch Chardonnay (Green Valley-Russian River Valley)
Dan and Steve select their favorite Dutton Ranch vineyards to craft
a wine reflecting our vision of classic Russian River Valley Chardonnay.
The vineyards we choose are based on our desire to offer wines with
fruit intensity, great acid structure and richness, even after full
barrel and malolactic fermentation. Our dry farmed, low yielding old
chardonnay vines served us beautifully in the long, cool 2006 vintage.
Their thick skins and high acid held beautifully this season and gave
us a classic Dutton Ranch Chard, with its crisp fruit, great structure
and moderate alcohol. Lush pear and vivid citrus aromas lead in the
nose, followed by fresh cream and toffee overtones. In the mouth, the
candied lime and citrus elements shine through, supported by creamy
caramel undertones and fresh acidity. This is a wine of balance, freshness
and personality. Enjoy it on its own to start an evening, or with everything
from hors d'oevres to roasted fowl, sautéed fish and grilled pork. 3,974

2005
Sanchietti Vineyard Pinot Noir (Green Valley-Russian River Valley)
An exceptional vintage in an exceptional vineyard would be the synopsis
of the 2005 Sanchietti Pinot. 2005 was just the sort of year that Sanchietti
loves-lots of spring moisture, moderate set (10 tons off of 6 acres),
and a long, cool ripening season. The thin soil pushes the vines quickly
at the end of the season, so the cool fall provided the fruit extra
hang time and wonderful ripeness, both in flavors and texture. The hallmark
of Sanchietti for us is its enthralling combination of grace and power,
and the 2005 offering certainly exemplifies this. In the nose it leads
with dark blueberry fruit, violets, and a hint of black tea, all with
a touch of extra concentration courtesy of this vintage. In the mouth
bright berry and black cherry shine through along with concentrated,
finely structured tannins and ginger spice. This a wine that is clearly
packed tightly and well built for aging, but its silkiness and candied
finish are enticing already. Enjoy it over a long dinner of veal Cordon
Bleu, truffle risotto, or Moscovy duck breast. 343 cases produced.

2005
McDougall Vineyard Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast)
The late spring rains brought poor set conditions to the Sonoma Coast
in 2005, but fortunately excellent ripening weather followed. Because
the vineyard is fairly protected, McDougall actually did better than
many at just 1 ton an acre at harvest. The combination of low fruit
yield, but a long, cool ripening period imparted both intensity and
balance to the vintage. This is a wine that benefited from all of its
17 months in barrel, and will continue to do so with long aging in the
bottle. In the glass it shows the vivid Bing cherry, candied cranberry
and mineral elements that we so love in this vineyard. With further
time in the glass, the overtones of Asian spices and an almost peaty
element lift the core of fruit. In the mouth, the voluptuous fruit is
balanced by bright acidity, and a solid structure for food pairing and
aging potential. The tannins are particularly fine and sweet, resulting
from the long ripening season. This is a Pinot to pair with a great
filet, sharp (but not funky) cheeses, or a well made coq au vin. 250

2005
Freestone Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley)
Its ebullient fruit and alluring spice immediately entice you into
this wine. This is a vineyard that needs perfect October weather to
mature its thick skins, and when it gets it, rewards with a striking
combination of unctuous structure, lively fruit, and wonderful acid/alcohol
balance. Boysenberry and blackberry are the dominant fruit characters,
but there's also a sappiness and overlay of baking spices that takes
it to another level. In the mouth, the sweet, ripe tannins frame the
fruit, and the moderate alcohol allows the fresh berry to linger through
the finish. The allure of this wine is that it provides the depth and
dark tones that we've come to love in coastal pinot, but retains the
liveliness that keeps us coming back to the glass. This is clearly a
wine that has many years ahead of it, but the sweet fruit makes it a
great pairing for game bird, veal chops, and rich fish dishes right
now. 361 cases produced. 96 points, Wine Enthusiast.

Shop Blanc Pinot Blanc (Green Valley-Russian River Valley)
A new addition to the Dutton-Goldfield portfolio! When the Duttons
decided to replant the old Shop Block French Colombard at their original
home ranch, Pinot Blanc was a natural choice for this cold valley site.
The classic Green Valley conditions of cold, foggy nights and sunny
days enhances the varietal's aromatics, bright acidity, and cleansing
minerality. Our 2006 Pinot Blanc is crisp and fresh, with juicy apricot
and peach aromas and steely just-picked apple flavors. It's a racy,
bright wine, cool and refreshing for sipping on a hot summer afternoon
or evening. The fact that it's barrel fermented imparts a bit of thickness
in the mouth, but the lack of new wood allows the clean fruit to shine
through to the refreshing finish. This wine's bright freshness makes
it truly versatile, great for enjoying on its own by the pool or hot
tub (just chill slightly), or with everything from salads and appetizers
to light summer dinners of petrale sole, shrimp stir-fry, and grilled
vegetables. 112 cases produced. Buy

2005
Rued Vineyard Chardonnay (Green Valley-Russian River Valley)
In 2005, Mother Nature gave Russian River the kind of year we always
hope for, but don't often get. We had early budbreak, then great vine
growth from late spring rains; perfect flowering conditions for the
chards, followed by a cool summer and moderate, dry late harvest weather.
Consequently, the fruit ripened slowly and evenly; retaining its acid
while building flavor and concentration. We were rewarded with a Rued
offering of particular density, balance and longevity, even for this
vineyard. It draws one in with aromas of pear, lychee, lilac, ginger
and toffee. In the mouth it continues the orgy of opulence, but balanced
with moderate alcohol and bright acidity which enables the fresh spiced
pear and tropical fruit to shine through to the finish. Clearly this
is a special vintage of a special wine for us. Dan loves nothing more
than great aged chardonnays, and this one should certainly fit that
bill in 5 to 15 years. In the meantime, it will show wonderfully now
with almost any lobster or crab dish, or a roasted game bird. 564 cases.

2005
Russian River Valley Zinfandel (Russian River Valley)
The long, cool 2005 harvest season produced zinfandel fruit that wonderfully
suited our style at Dutton-Goldfield: fruit with great physiological
ripeness at moderate sugar, and balanced acidity. The resulting wine
shows the tremendous lushness and vibrancy for which zin is so prized,
while maintaining an elegant balance not often seen in the varietal.
This is a wine that is consistent from first sniff to the long, deep
cherry finish. Throughout, it shows depth, dark enticing fruit, and
soft candied overtones. In the nose, the black cherry, toffee and floral
notes draw you in. In the mouth, its cherry and boysenberry fruit give
a real perception of sweetness, enhanced by soft tannins and spicy wood
notes. Its moderate alcohol allows the freshness and complexity of this
wine to shine through, as well as helping it to be excellent for pairing
with anything from pasta dishes and roasted meats to Parmesan and Manchego
cheese and dark chocolate brownies. 507 cases produced. SOLD

2005
Morelli Lane Vineyard Zinfandel (Green Valley-Russian River Valley)
The winemaker's feelings on this year's Morelli are simple: if no one
else loves it (unlikely) he'll drink it all, and he's well on his way.
The 2005 early budbreak and late spring rains resulted in great vine
growth, and the naturally late flowering zin occurred in perfect weather.
The cool summer and dry, sunny late harvest weather provided unusually
even ripening and beautifully balanced fruit. Beyond the classic Morelli
frambois on the nose, the 2005 offers layers of candied cherries, bramble
and shaved chocolate. Its opulent aromatic ripeness almost makes the
bright, crystalline fruit in the mouth a surprise. The immediate impression
is of candied raspberry and plush tannins, but it is the bright acidity
and balanced alcohol that carry the fresh berry, floral and toffee finish.
This is the rare zinfandel that can be enjoyed with a variety of foods
without dominating or fatiguing the palate. Try it with everything from
steak to mildly spicy fish dishes, and sharp cheeses like cheddar and
Fontina. The balance of this wine would certainly allow it to age another
10 years, but why bother. 257 cases. 90 points, Wine & Spirits.

2005
Dutton Ranch Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley)
2005 was the kind of vintage that showcases what Russian River Pinot
Noir is all about: vibrant fruit, substantial structure, and luscious
mouthfeel. In 2005 we had early budbreak and great vine growth from
late spring rains. Flowering weather was spotty on the coast, but kinder
in Green Valley, leaving us a balanced crop and healthy vines. The cool
summer, with no substantial heat spikes, was followed by dry and sunny
late harvest weather. The resulting fruit had a wonderful balance between
acidity, skin ripeness and sugar development, and this balance clearly
shows in the wines. The 2005 Dutton Ranch Pinot simply exclaims its
Russian River heritage in the nose; with bright black cherry, dried
strawberry and lilac overtones. In the mouth it continues with a wonderfully
sweet cherry middle, surrounded by fat, supple tannins and nutmeg/coriander
spice elements. This is a hedonistic wine whose balance belies its lingering
intensity and substantial concentration. A hugely versatile food wine,
it might be particularly suited to salmon dishes, roasted fowl, and
medium intensity cheeses like Gruyere or Asiago. 2,784 cases. 92
points, Wine & Spirits. SOLD OUT.

2005
Dutton Ranch Chardonnay (Green Valley-Russian River Valley)
2005 was a textbook year for our old chardonnay vineyards. We had an
early budbreak and great vine growth from late spring rains. Flowering
weather was perfect for the chards, followed by a cool summer and excellent,
dry late harvest weather. The gift of the season was obvious in fruit
with ripe flavors, good acidity, moderate sugar and no rot. The resulting
wine shows what we love about Dutton Ranch Chard. In the nose the classic
lemon cream pie jumps out, with overtones of caraway seed, ginger and
a touch of tangerine. In the mouth its core of citrus fruit and bright
acid is nestled in a setting of creamy ginger spice that provides a
beautiful balance and lingering finish. This is a wine of great versatility:
enjoy it as an aperitif, or with rich and creamy foods that benefit
from a focused, refreshing counterpoint. 3,389 cases. SOLD OUT.

2004
Cherry Ridge Vineyard Syrah (Green Valley-Russian River Valley)
The warm 2004 ripening season provided a wonderful vintage for our
Green Valley Syrah. It retains the focused blueberry fruit, bright acidity
and moderate alcohol so characteristic of our area, but at the same
time offers an enveloping lushness indicative of that warm season. In
the nose this wine entices with aromas of blueberry, black cherry and
nutmeg. It follows in the mouth with wonderfully plush tannins that
carry its dark flavors of black cherry, boysenberry and toffee through
to a lingering sweet finish. This is a syrah that keeps you wanting
more. It's a wonderful match to salty cheeses like aged Gouda and Gruyere,
or savory fowl or meat dishes. This is truly a wine that the winemaker
enjoys, and hopes that you will too. 910 cases. Buy

2004
Sanchietti Vineyard Pinot Noir (Green Valley-Russian River Valley)
The hallmark of Sanchietti for us is its enthralling combination of
grace and power, possibly the fusion that defines great pinot. While
lively, bright, floral and silky, it also has an underlying depth and
structure that makes you keep wanting another sip. Its rich tannins
and moderate alcohol make also make it a great wine for aging. The 2004
offering leads with aromas of blueberries, black cherry and violets,
which continues to expand and develop as the wine opens in the glass.
In the mouth the richness from the warm 2004 vintage is immediately
obvious; with unctuous blackberry and blueberry fruit, which expands
into Asian spice overtones and a lingering candied berry finish. Its
sweet satin mouthfeel and gentle power carry this wine from intriguing
beginning to satisfying finish. Enjoy it over a long dinner of veal
Cordon Bleu, beef bourguignon, broiled swordfish with a ginger sauce
or roasted pheasant. 396 cases produced. 94 points and a Top

2004
Devil's Gulch Vineyard Pinot Noir (Marin County)
The early budbreak and warm 2004 ripening season particularly suited
Devil's Gulch. The unusually long fogless period at harvest gave this
cold vineyard enough time to ripen to perfection. The wine leads with
its characteristic wild, brambly blackberry and woodsy aromas, complemented
by violets, plum and black cherry. In the mouth, it's bright, sweet
and mouth-filling, with rich raspberry, candied cherry, cinnamon and
forest floor notes. As it evolves in the glass over time, the wine becomes
broader and even more lush, showing its wild blackberry and toffee essence,
and a velvet finish. Enjoy it with grilled sea bass, mushroom risotto,
roasted rabbit and fresh goat cheese. 432 cases. 92 points. Wine

Rued Vineyard Chardonnay (Green Valley-Russian River Valley)
Special wines are all about personality, and "captivating" might be
the best way to describe the personality of this wine. It leads with
aromas of spiced pear and ginger, with tropical and mineral overtones
emerging over time in the glass. Generous pear, lychee and candied citrus
fruits are presented with great viscosity and length. It's the combination
of plushness and bright fruit that is the allure of this wine. Moderate
alcohol and balanced acidity provide a freshness on the finish which
carries the lingering spiced pear and citrus, and make it a great pairing
for food. Try it with seafood bisque, veal Marsala, shrimp scampi and
creamy Fontina and Brie cheeses. 396 cases produced. 95 points, Wine

2004
McDougall Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast)
Located in the true Sonoma Coast, on the second ridge in from the ocean
just south of the Mendocino County line, the McDougall Vineyard wonderfully
represents the wild beauty and intensity of the Sonoma Coast, both in
its land and its fruit. The 2004 McDougall Pinot is rich, luscious and
well-structured, as Sonoma Coast wines tend to be. The warm harvest
of 2004 gave us perfectly ripe fruit, and a fairly bountiful harvest
for this vineyard-nearly 1 ton per acre. Dense dark cherry aromas are
surrounded by granite, spice and lilac/lavender notes. In the mouth,
the wine is velvety and round, with a perfect balance of fruit, broad
tannins and fresh acidity. Sweet black cherry, cola and coffee characters,
along with a distinctive mineral edge, are followed by a lingering caramel
finish. A great candidate for your cellar, or enjoy it now with a nice
steak off the grill. 128 cases produced. 95 points, Wine Enthusiast.

2004
Russian River Valley Zinfandel (Russian River Valley)
The warm harvest of 2004 was perfect for zinfandel, especially the
old vines of Feeney Ranch. In this blend, 2004 gave us a great lushness
along with thick cherry and berry fruit, while still maintaining the
focus and structure that Dutton-Goldfield prefers in our wines. In the
nose, the wine leads with aromas of cherry cobbler and candied cranberries,
with a touch of roasted nuts and vanilla as overtones. The mouth follows
with bright cherry and berry fruit, notes of cocoa and allspice, and
a wonderful combination of opulence, firmness of structure, and moderate
alcohol that makes it a great food pairing wine. Drink this easy to
enjoy wine with almost anything-from any home made pasta dish and a
wide variety of cheeses, to roasted fowl, barbecued ribs and pot roast.

2004
Dutton Ranch Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley)
2004 was a year with good set but low fruitfulness due to the poor
2003 bud development, so a low crop year. The cool summer was followed
by a heat spike in late August, and another lasting all through September,
with fruit coming in a tidal wave like never before. The long season
and warm harvest impart a very deep black fruit character, while the
gentle winemaking enhanced the delicate floral nature of our neighborhood.
The nose greets you with lilacs, followed by black cherry, dark chocolate
and a streak of blueberry. In the mouth, the black cherry dominates
the core of sweetness, complemented by black tea, raspberry and fine-grained
tannins. The richness of the wine makes it a perfect match for foie
gras, glazed duck, barbecued shrimp, eggplant parmesan and Jarlsberg
and Asiago cheeses. 2,490 cases produced. 92 points, Wine Enthusiast.

2004
Morelli Lane Vineyard Zinfandel (Green Valley-Russian River Valley)
The low yield and warm harvest of 2004 perfectly suited the old vines
at Morelli. In this cool area the zin loves the heat, which promoted
great tannin ripeness and rewarded us with a wine of particular lushness,
even for this vineyard. Raspberries, blueberries and cream jump out
of the glass as soon as you pour the wine. It's remarkable that something
so fresh and vivid comes from vines so old and gnarled. With time in
the glass, the deep black cherry, bramble and floral notes emerge. In
the mouth it offers a rare freshness and suppleness for the varietal,
along with plush berry fruit and a touch of bramble and bittersweet
chocolate. Its bright fruit carries through to the finish, thanks to
the moderate alcohol and lively acidity. Wonderfully easy to drink,
it's perfect with everything from a steak off the barbecue and roasted
poultry to grilled swordfish and assertive cheeses. 206 cases produced.

2004
Dutton Ranch Chardonnay (Green Valley-Russian River Valley)
2004 brought us an early budbreak, and a warm summer and harvest season.
It was a year where the old vineyards of Green Valley showed their worth.
In the frenzy of a warm harvest, the old, cold vines maintain their
acidity, fruit focus and brightness, and our 2004 Dutton Ranch Chardonnay
shows these characteristics. It is a year where the core of citrus is
overlaid by pear and stone fruits, and the nose displays spice and poppy
seed overtones. The wine is particularly lush, while still displaying
the focused lime and tangerine notes that we expect from Dutton Ranch
Chardonnay. This is a wine to pair with your most indulgent foods-from
pâtés and fresh mozzarella to escargots, salmon with a caper aioli and
fettuccini Alfredo. 2,565 cases produced. 94 points and Editors'
Choice, Wine Enthusiast. SOLD OUT.

2001
McDougall Vineyard Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast)
Our inaugural release of this Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast is a
wine of structure, intensity and character. Red berries, wild cherries
and minerals come to mind as the wine is poured. It evolves in the glass
to yield its softer dark overtones and spice elements. In the mouth,
deep cherry and cranberry elements balance the substantial tannins and
bright acid, followed by a lingering finish of candied cranberry and
black currant. It's a perfect wine for your cellar, as it will evolve
gracefully for five to ten years, and is wonderful now with full-flavored
meals such as quail with cracked pepper, or a tri tip off Mac's grill.
