Past Events
Hospices of Sonoma, November 14-16, 2003
We
were thrilled to be among the 24 wineries taking part in the first annual
Hospices of Sonoma fundraiser, benefiting children in life-threatening
circumstances. The event, modeled after Burgundy's famed Hospice de
Beaune, brought in $200,000 in its inaugural year (see www.hospicesofsonoma.org
for complete details on the event and the cause, and Wine
Spectator Online for a recap of the event).
Looking at the amazing company we were in--including Dehlinger, Flowers,
Patz & Hall, and Rochioli--Dan was getting more and more nervous
as the auctioneer, Ursula Hermacinski (a.k.a., "goddess of the
gavel") worked her way around the room towards us Saturday afternoon.
His butterflies quickly turned to amazement when our half-barrel of
2003 Sanchietti Vineyard Pinot brought in the top bid of the day
at $12,000; some of the other high bids were David Bruce's half-barrel
for $10,300, and Gary Farrell's for $9,500. One of Dan's favorite barrel
lots was made by his buddies at Hartford Court from their Arrendell
Vineyard.
All in all, it was an incredible and memorable weekend, and we're already
looking forward to next year!
